One gene. Dozens of possible proteoforms. Understanding biology means knowing which ones actually show up — and right now, most of the field still isn’t equipped to answer that question.

We’re building the cutting-edge standards, tools, and community that make it possible: shared nomenclature, open data formats, methods that didn’t exist five years ago.

The Proteoform Alliance is a non-profit corporation with members worldwide from academic institutions, corporations, and government agencies.

Our Mission

The Proteoform Alliance unites the global community to unlock the full potential of proteoform biology; advancing the technology, knowledge, and partnerships as a transformative force for understanding life and improving health.

What We Do

Connect

Convene an international community across academic, clinical, industrial, government, and nonprofit sectors.

Coordinate

Identify shared scientific priorities, enable working groups, and align complementary projects.

Standardize

Promote common terminology, proteoform representations, quality metrics, reference materials, and interoperable data practices

Accelerate technology development

Encourage advances in top-down and “long-read” proteomics, single-cell analysis, single-molecule methods, nanopore technologies, affinity methods and reagents, imaging, and computational tools.

Build Capability

Support training, education, career development, community resources, and access to technical expertise.

Translate to Impact

Connect proteoform discoveries to disease biology, better biomarkers, therapeutic development, and diagnostics, as well as challenges in energy and the environment.

Champion the Human Proteoform Project.
